2020 winner

Lewis Silkin

As part of its commitment to driving greater employee engagement, Lewis Silkin introduced an AI-based employee feedback tool using the software platform, Peakon. The HR team built a survey around 14 drivers of engagement. The rich – and anonymous – feedback, both quantitative and qualitative, enables the senior management team to identify emerging themes on which action can be promptly taken; it allows the HR team continuously to gauge shifts in employee engagement; and the flexible architecture of the platform allows for questions to be added on new hot topics. It is now used twice a month to survey employee attitudes on a range of issues. The firm has seen an 85% participation rate with 16,000 comments, 2,500 conversations and a strong increase in underlying engagement measures. The board has also used its feedback to act on high profile topics such as IT investment and leadership training.

With the dual goals of providing greater international exposure and enhancing the professional experience of their rising star lawyers, Blue Chip Spanish boutique law firm Pérez-Llorca developed a bespoke international program – ‘P-LLM’ – including a prestigious LL.M. and a secondment to a top law firm abroad. Since initially trialled with one associate, 12 have gone through the P-LLM programme with three currently participating and seven more planned for 2021. The firm has developed a transparent HR process for selecting candidates and provides support in advance of the programme and on re-integration back into the firm. The programme demonstrates a significant investment in the firm’s highest potential associates and has both differentiated the firms international credibility with clients and enhanced the career experience of the participants.
